A one-hour version of a longer metal show. “This radical reimagining of opera is based on the real life Queen Boudicca of the Iceni--one of the greatest freedom fighters in Celtic History. Rome’s cruel abuse of Boudicca and her daughters unleashed a lioness, a savage destroyer the likes of which the Roman Empire had never seen! Heavy Metal, Ancient Celtic instruments and severed heads.” (from Facebook Event Page)

Some thoughts on the rehearsal experience
I found the Boudicca team through a friend, and I honestly wouldn’t have thought it was for me unless I had given it a chance. As a newcomer to the world of metal music, I love the way Robert Schlink’s composition uses the idiom to add power to the storytelling. Celtic instruments and folk music gives the score an ancient feeling, but Director Carol Schlink’s staging suggests a timeless setting. The creators, cast, and band have worked really hard for an audience experience that is fun and loud without sacrificing the heart of the characters in the story. Many of my colleagues are singers in professional-level metal bands, which is awesome to see up close. It’s going to be a great show!
